Aranyakas (आरण्यक) lit. forest-texts or forest-dweller) are found appended to the material in some of the Brahmanas. They are meant to be read by and serve as a guide to men, when they enter the third phase Vanaprastha (forest-dwelling) of their life. They deal with many philosophical questions.
