Daityas are the sons of Diti and the sage Kashyapa. They are usually referred to as Asuras, although that appellation includes the Danavas also. They are jealous of the good fortune of their half-brothers, the Devas, and are constantly at war with them. Lord Vishnu is their mortal enemy, for he supports the Devas and slays the Daityas.
