Devayani is the daughter of Shukra. After her love was rejected by Kacha, the son of Brihaspati, she ended up marrying Yayati. She had two sons by him, named Turvasha and Yadu.
When the Asura princess Sharmishta had insulted her, she persuaded her father Shukra to stay away from the councils of the Asuras. She relented only when Sharmishta consented to become her servant.
Despite his promise to Shukra to stay monogamous, Yayati took Sharmishta as his concubine. Very much hurt by his betrayal, Devayani went away to her father's house. Shukra then cursed Yayati with premature old age. This story is told in detail here.
