Shakti was the eldest of the hundred sons of sage Vasishta and Arundhati. He married a woman named Adrishyanti, through whom he had a son named Parasara.
Once, Shakti got into an argument with a King named Kalmashapada regarding right of way in a forest path. Taking advantage of this quarrel, the sage Vishwamitra (who was the enemy of sage Vasishta), caused a demon to enter the body of the King. This demon, controlling the body of the King, then killed all the hundred sons of Vasishta, starting with Shakti, whom he devoured alive. This story can be found in greater detail here.
